Dubai is the commercial capital of the United Arab Emirates. This is the second emirate in terms of size and population with 3885 km2 and 1,870,000 inhabitants, just after the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the political capital of the country.

Dubai faces the the waters of the Arabian Gulf and is bordeing the emirate of Sharjah in the North and Abu Dhabi in the South, approximately 1 hour drive away.

A great part of Dubai territory is in fact occupied by the desert, but the city, initially built on the banks of the creek and along the coast tends to now gain space against the desert.

Initially a simple beduin and fishermen village, Dubai quickly turned into an international trading center for pearls and all types of goods. Today, Dubai is one of the most modern and dynamic cities in the world, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Dubai has developed a strong tourism sector over the years, and which now accounts for a large part of the emirate income thanks to the development of world-class infrastructures and facilities for tourists and residents. World record breaking projects such as the Burj Al Arab and the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall or the man-made Palm Islands, helped establishing all around the world Dubai's notoriety.

Some practical information to organize your stay :

Language : the official language of the UAE is Arabic, but English is widely spoken throughout the country.

Currency : The local currency is the UAE dirham (AED) which is divided into 100 fils.

Visa : While several country citizens will receive 30days visa upon arrival, many others need to apply before travelling to Dubai. It is better to check your country UAE embassy website to know about your case.

Dress Code : The UAE are a Muslim country, modest dress code is expected from travelers, particularly in public places and buildings. Women do not need to cover their heads except for visiting mosques.
